How much does a year of US grad school cost? Typically NT$1.4M–3M
Common estimates put one year at NT$1.4M–3M, driven by public vs private, city, and field. Business and engineering skew high; New York and San Francisco cost far more than the Midwest.
Three costs tend to get left out: student insurance at roughly NT$45k–90k a year, the application stage itself (per-school fees, score reports, credential evaluation), and the proof of funds the visa requires. These are consultancy estimates, not official figures; each school's own Cost of Attendance page is the published amount, and it is also what the proof of funds is measured against.
How much do I need to show?
Enough to cover the first year of tuition plus living costs, measured against the school's published Cost of Attendance, which is also what the I-20 is based on. Use an English bank statement with the amount in US dollars.
How many schools?
Six to ten is common, split into reach, target and safety. What limits the number is usually the application fees, an SOP revision per school, and paying for another score report each time.
Do I need an agency?
Not necessarily. Agencies in Taiwan start around NT$50,000 per country and generally cover three things: school selection advice, document editing, and process tracking. Prices and scope vary a lot; ask several and get an itemised quote.
